Application Bic Farms

The New York State Agricultural Society honors Century Farms each year and Bicentennial Farms every fifth year at the Society’s Annual Agricultural Forum. A Bicentennial Farm is one that has been under continuous ownership by the same family for 200 years or more. Family members MUST BE an integral part of the day to day operation of the farm enterprise. Also, proceeds from the farm business must represent a significant portion of the current operator’s income. When applying, we ask that you and/or a family representatives plan on attending the Ag Society annual meeting for the award presentation. Either you have requested this application, or someone has recommended that you receive one. Your farm will be considered for this honor only if you fill the form out completely and return it by September 1. A limited number of Bicentennial Farms will be honored.

Include information about type of farm (past & present), crops grown, livestock, etc. (This information will be used to prepare the narrative description of your farm, if selected, at the awards ceremony. A separate sheet may be added if necessary.)

Describe any unique features of the farm or family you feel are appropriate.
Farm Management and Planning: Please briefly describe how management responsibilities are delegated, what plans are being made for the future, and what role farm services and organizations, such as Cornell Cooperative Extension, Farm Bureau, Cooperatives and other farm services, play in management of the farm.
Community Involvement: Please describe how the present family members are involved in the community. Community service often plays a major role in the legacy of Bicentennial Farms.

Additionally, please provide a Minimum of two (2) letters of support from community leadership (for example: local officials, Cooperative Extension, Farm Bureau, Historical Society, etc.)
